What is Counselling?

  • When life becomes overwhelming, unbearable, or just plain challenging, individual counselling may be an option to help you develop a better understanding of your difficulties and needs, build resilience, and regain control of your life.

Some common reasons people seek out individual counselling includes, but is not limited to:

Depression, anxiety, trauma, and other mental illnesses

    Stress management

    Anger management

    Grief, bereavement, and loss

    Low self-esteem and self-confidence

    Relationship challenges

Many people can benefit from therapy and counselling. I can help you work through a wide range of problems and goals together and help you attain a stronger, healthier sense of self, as well as access and understand your feelings to help gain a sense of meaning in life.

  • Relationships are a source of love, support, trust and fulfilment when they are working well. Sometimes, however, they stop working well – desires and expectations fall out of sync, disillusionment occurs, communication breaks down, mistrust creeps in.

Some common reasons people seek out couples counselling includes, but is not limited to:

    Substance Abuse

    Sexual Issues

    Infidelity

    Communication Issues

    Financial Challenges

    Mismatched Desires

    Chronic Illness or disability

    Family Issues

When you are struggling, seeking relationship therapy and counselling may be able to help; even if the relationship between you and your partner is working well, relationship therapy could strengthen that connection even further.

In relationship counselling, I use strategies from Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy and Gottman Couples Therapy to help guide you in building better foundations for your relationships and connecting on a deeper level to foster intimacy. In addition, communication tools and strategies will be introduced to help you work through conflict as it arises, allowing you to plan and invest in the future you hope to have together.

  • From mood swings to school issues, all teens have problems. But sometimes, a teen's distress might rise to a level where it's important to seek professional help. Therapy certainly doesn’t need to be reserved for life-altering events or serious mental health problems, however. Meeting with a therapist can prevent minor issues from turning into major problems.

Teens can benefit from meeting with a therapist to talk to about a variety of topics, ranging from relationship issues to questions about sexual identity. Here are some of the reasons teens go to therapy:

    Depression

    Anxiety

    Behavioural issues

    Substance use Issues

    Stress

    School and social related issues

    Low self-esteem

    Trauma

    Grief

    Lack of self-awareness

    Disordered eating

Psychological therapy for your teen offers them: a safe, unpressured space to relax and be authentic the chance to figure out who they are and what they want to be unbiased support for issues they are facing like bullying or LGBTQ+ issues help with communication skills and self-expression the abiilty to see bigger perspectives and recognise their own values tools to raise their confidence and manage their thoughts and emotions a focus on their strengths and not just their weaknesses coping skills to manage the challenges ahead.

I can help teens recognize and articulate their emotions and communicate more effectively with others in their lives. I strive to validate their feelings through counselling and help them develop healthy and positive ways of channeling their emotions. This leads towards a better understanding of themselves, their relationships and their established patterns of behaviour.

“Emotional pain is an inherent part of the human experience, but you don’t have to go through it alone”. — Viktor Frankl
